History
Il restauro ha preservato il sogno, la magia e la passione della famiglia Ferraioli
The Ferraioli family was an aristocratic and noble family, dedicated to the management and care of numerous commercial activities located throughout the Coast. The Palazzo Ferraioli was built in the 19th century by brothers Matteo, Pasquale and Egidio Ferraioli.
Their dream was to create a splendid residence that was both comfortable and elegant.
Matteo, who designed the building with the idea of creating the largest structure ever built in the municipality of Atrani, was a skilled architect and engineer and so, together with his family, he devoted himself to the construction of the building with care and love.
Shortly after the work was completed, tragedy struck the family. Egidio perdió a su primera esposa y al bebé que estaba a punto de dar a luz en 1896. Devastated by grief, Egidio left for the United States of America, never to return to his beloved Italy.
Alcuni anni più tardi, si risposò con Carmela DeFeo, originaria di Amalfi emigrata in America con la sua famiglia in giovane età. The brothers Matteo and Pasquale died in 1909 without leaving any heirs, and Elisabetta, wife of the late Pasquale, left her inheritance to Edigio’s children, who lived in the United States.
The Lucibello family decided to retain the name Ferraioli, out of respect for the illustrious family who conceived and designed the residence. L’Hotel Palazzo Ferraioli quindi, vuole essere testimonianza della bellezza unica e della storia della Costiera Amalfitana. Its restoration was carried out while preserving the dream, magic and passion of the Ferraioli family.
(We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Phyllis Manicone, granddaughter of Edigio Ferraioli, for kindly providing the historical details reported here).
